i guess i am one of those “gems.” i a second year law student and my bf is an irish-catholic firefighter (whom my parents love). I dont date him because he is not indian, i’m open to indians or whomever. many of my friends fit into the “desi princess” category only dating indians with m.d. after their names. Which always strikes me as odd, since most of my girlfriends have advanced degrees and successful careers…

as a child of divorce, all those things that look good on paper end up down the drain in a few years (my parents were THAT desi couple, dad with multiple degrees, pretty mom). so i figure i should do what makes me happy and hope for the best

sonny sounds like a cool guy, who wouldnt want to date a guy that drinks beer (wonder what his beer pong abilities are like) and hell i’d go to the strip club with my bf! Its a good way of finding out whether u would want to put in a pole in the bedroom or not…

What exactly does Sonny have to offer an Indian (or any) woman?

We are hearing alot about what he wants, but what can he give?

Is he a great cook? Can he scrub a bathtub till it shines like millions of moons?
Strong foot rubs? Unprecedented oral sex skills?

OK well, I wonder how your “Sonny” would feel about his wife hanging out at bars with scantily dressed men all night?

Sure, he wants his wife to be “independent”. That means he wants her to work and feel free to hang out at cafes with her girlfriends chatting, right?

Sonny will have to drop the hanging out at bars or strip clubs. There is no getting around that. Otherwise he should search out a woman who does the same.

Indian men - what gall!

And I think that’s why alot of Indian women go for non-Indian guys. They don’t have as many double standards.

Other than that, Sonny sounds OK and I would date him, provided he doesn’t have one of those mustaches.

Unfortunately most Indian women want that. And also unfortunately, most Indian men are looking for that female equivalent. Meaning, that girl that they can take home to mom and dad, who will be a good mother, but who will also impress all their friends and will speak to their value as men. Some people are more complex than that, true, but it’s a distinct minority. Is it that surprising that the vast majority of women by their thirties would marry solely for money?

wow…what a truly negative and narrow view of the indian woman…as if all she is interested in is settling down and starting a family with an individual earning a decent income, so she has a trophy of accomplishment on the mantle piece. individuals, regardless of race, are much more complex than that…and even more so if raised biculturally.

Indian girls either seek so much security (ahem, money, in many cases) or just give up on brown men completely. there is an in between of brown dudes who are not part of the 3 Ms (money, medicine, or machines) who actually would like to date our own women

this may be true of all women, and it is certainly true of desi women. really it is true of desi parents. who would want their daughter to marry someone whose income and future is not secured? that is no place to raise a family. i don’t know if it’s as cut and dry as she made it seem, but i think it is a fair assessment.

if you were to find a woman who could tolerate that lifestyle, she would have to be the most understanding woman alive, or she’d be equally into it. i doubt you would find that attractive.
